About EMC Gems

EMC Gems S.r.l. is born in March 2021 as a startup of the University of Udine, in Italy.

Thanks to our academic background, we believe in scientific research. All our software is the result of the technology transfer from basic scientific research performed at the EMCLab (Electromagnetic compatibility, advanced simulation and applied electromagnetics laboratory) of the University of Udine.

The most distinctive know-how of the EMC Gems team is exactly in the field of advanced simulation of electromagnetic fields and devices, so-called computational electromagnetics. We are expert in solving electrostatics, magnetostatics, stationary currnet conduction, eddy currents or magnetic induction or magneto-quasistatics, electro-quasistatics, full wave Maxwell problems), multi-physics problems (nanoelectronics, MEMS, fuel cells modeling), bioelectromagnetics, lab-on-a-chip biosensors, electromagnetic sensors, inverse problems, computational topology and topological data analysis.

We develop new technologies that are not only scientifically sound, but that enable the solution of challenging problems in industry. For example, an etremely efficient virtual prototyping of electromagnetic devices is an enabling technology for the extensive design space explorations, the automatic optimization with virtual design assistants, the development of innovative design support systems, etc.

The other characteristics of our simulation tools is that they are vertical, i.e. they are developed with specific applications in mind, in such a way that the tool can be optimized by exploiting the characteristics of the problem. Moreover, each vertical tool can be modified to become tailor-made for a specific customers.

In recent years we have also gained considerable know-how in sensor design and manufacturing, especially inductive sensors for position, proximity, level, torque, force, etc. We also have data analyst in the team who can analyze data read from sensors with machine learning techniques to perform condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of mechanical and electromechanical equipment.

Our business model

What matters to us

Our goal is not to seel just sensors or software licences. We want to become a technological partner for our customers, building a long lasting relationship with them, based on trust, competence, experience and concrete results. Our model is simple:

Understand customers’ needs

Help customers achieve their goals

Team

Our people, our strenght

Our highly motivated professionals cater to any need of the electronics industry with in-depth expertise stemming from our over 20 years of experience in the simulation market.

CEO/CTO

Prof. Ruben Specogna, Ph.D.

I am Professor in Electrical Engineering at University of Udine (Italy), Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture (DPIA), head of the EMCLab (Electromagnetic compatibility, advanced simulation and applied electromagnetics laboratory). I have a Ph.D. in computational electromagnetics and a Master degree in Electrical Engineering.

I am author of more than 120 papers published in top international journals and 10 patents (some with Google LLC, Renesas Electronics and Centro di Riferimento Oncological (CRO) of Aviano).

I am Associate Editor of 5 ISI journals "Sensors", "e-Prime Advances in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Energy", "Mathematical Problems in Engineering", "Advances in Mathematical Physics" and "International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics".

I am also in the Editorial Board the Conference on the Computation of Electromagnetic Fields (COMPUMAG) and the IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation (CEFC).

Managing Director

Silvano Pitassi, Ph.D.

I have a Ph.D. in computational electromagnetics and a Master degree in Electrical Engineering. I am currently working as a post-doc at the University of Lille (France). I have developed considerable expertise in the theoretical development of new techniques for use in electromagnetic simulation. In particular, I am working in the development of electromagnetic solvers with higher-order convergence and new "disruptive" technologies for electromagnetic simulation.

Managing Director

Giulia Ferrario, M.Sc.

I have a Master Degree in law. Some of my duties are managing the company, creating quotes, handling orders and administrative paperwork, and reviewing user license agreements.

Software Engeneer/Ph.D student

Francesco Campagna, M.Sc.

I have a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and I am enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Industrial and Information Engineering at the University of Udine with a grant co-funded by EMC Gems. I am working on artificial intelligence applied to electromagnetic device optimization, design space exploration, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Full-stack developer

Enrico Tilati

I have a high school diploma in Electronics. I am responsible for the IT infrastructure of EMC Gems. I am dedicated to both programming the user interface (front-end) of the simulation software for automatic design of electrical and magnetic devices and managing the back-end. In addition, I designed the proprietary cloud computing infrastructure for electromagnetic simulation that enables the use of the Software as a Service (SaaS) business model.

Research Engineer

Diego Masotti, B.Sc.

In July 2023 I'm going to graduate in Electrical Engineering. Meanwhile, I am studying and implementing the new generation of electromagnetic simulation software developed by EMC Gems, which promises to be even better performing than those currently in use.

Hardware Engineer

Jacopo Foltran, B.Sc.

I have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. I am involved in the electronic design of custom sensors, acquisition boards, and tailor-made data transmission systems.
