About EMC Gems

Our Story

EMC Gems S.r.l. was founded in March 2021 as a University of Udine startup, born from over 20 years of groundbreaking scientific research in electromagnetic modeling and simulation. With a strong foundation in Udine, Italy, we’ve contributed to advancing the state of the art with over 130 publications in leading international journals and 10 patents. We are a deep-tech startup with a mission: to transform advanced scientific knowledge into innovative technologies that solve real-world industrial challenges.

Our Expertise

At EMC Gems, we specialize in computational electromagnetics—the advanced simulation of electromagnetic fields and devices. This expertise forms the backbone of our company, enabling us to push the boundaries of virtual prototyping and optimized engineering design. Our innovative tools allow for fast, precise simulations that support extensive design space exploration and AI-driven optimization, helping customers create better-performing products. We constantly develop new technologies—our "gems"—that are scientifically robust and tailored to meet the most demanding industrial challenges.

Our Products

Our simulation software is designed as Simulation as a Service (SaaS), offering cloud-native solutions accessible directly through a browser. These tools are:

  • Vertical: Optimized for specific applications to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Customizable: Tailored to meet unique customer requirements, making each tool a perfect fit for the problem at hand.

Our solutions empower engineers to achieve faster, smarter, and more effective designs.

Sensors and Data Analysis

In addition to simulation software, we’ve developed significant expertise in the design and manufacturing of inductive sensors. Our portfolio includes sensors for position, proximity, level, torque, and force applications.Beyond hardware, we integrate machine learning-powered data analysis to extract insights from sensor data, enabling condition monitoring and predictive maintenance for mechanical and electromechanical systems.

Our people, our strenght

Our highly motivated professionals cater to any need of the electronics industry with in-depth expertise stemming from our over 20 years of experience in the simulation market.

CEO

Prof. Ruben Specogna, Ph.D.

I am Professor in Electrical Engineering at University of Udine (Italy), Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture (DPIA), head of the EMCLab (Electromagnetic compatibility, advanced simulation and applied electromagnetics laboratory). I have a Ph.D. in computational electromagnetics and a Master degree in Electrical Engineering.

I am author of more than 120 papers published in top international journals and 10 patents (some with Google LLC, Renesas Electronics and Centro di Riferimento Oncological (CRO) of Aviano).

I am Associate Editor of 5 ISI journals "Sensors", "e-Prime Advances in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Energy", "Mathematical Problems in Engineering", "Advances in Mathematical Physics" and "International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics".

I am also in the Editorial Board the Conference on the Computation of Electromagnetic Fields (COMPUMAG) and the IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation (CEFC).

Managing Director

Silvano Pitassi, Ph.D.

I have a Ph.D. in computational electromagnetics and a Master degree in Electrical Engineering. In 2023 I was post-doc at the University of Lille (France), now I am a MSCA post-doc at the University of Montpellier (France).

I have developed considerable expertise in the theoretical development of new techniques for use in electromagnetic simulation. In particular, I am working in the development of electromagnetic solvers with higher-order convergence.

Managing Director

Giulia Ferrario, M.Sc.

I have a Master Degree in law. Some of my duties are managing the company, finding new customers, handling orders and administrative paperwork, and reviewing user license agreements.

Research Engineer

Diego Masotti, B.Sc.

I am an Electrical Engineer. I am implementing the new generation of electromagnetic simulation software developed by EMC Gems, which promises to be even better performing than those currently in use.

Software Engeneer/Ph.D student

Francesco Campagna, M.Sc.

I have a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and I am enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Industrial and Information Engineering at the University of Udine with a grant co-funded by EMC Gems. I am working on artificial intelligence applied to electromagnetic device optimization, design space exploration, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Full-stack developer

Enrico Tilati

I have a high school diploma in Electronics. I am responsible for the IT infrastructure of EMC Gems. I am dedicated to both programming the user interface (front-end) of the simulation software for automatic design of electrical and magnetic devices and managing the back-end. In addition, I designed the proprietary cloud computing infrastructure for electromagnetic simulation that enables the use of the Software as a Service (SaaS) business model.

Hardware Engineer

Jacopo Foltran, B.Sc.

I have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. I am involved in the electronic design of custom sensors, acquisition boards, and tailor-made data transmission systems.
